Asbestos removal can be dangerous when carried out improperly, making it essential to follow the Asbestos Removal Work Health & Safety Legislation.
With recent WHS Legislation changes, an independent qualified asbestos inspector is now required to conduct a safety assessment of all asbestos removal jobs over 10 sqm. This safety assessment aims to determine if air monitoring will be required during the removal project.
In addition, all work over 10 sqm must have a visual clearance inspection carried out by an independent hygienist and issued an asbestos clearance certificate once the project is complete.
If an asbestos removal company completes a job without meeting these requirements, they are in breach of the WHS Legislation. As a consequence, both the asbestos removal contractor and the client can be fined by Worksafe up to $50,000.
